My digital life 3

How often you read newspaper? Every morning? Or you just read news on your smart phone?
For me, I like to read newspaper. I like the flipping sound and the texture of them. However, newspaper has been recently replaced by other new digital device that has left no place for them. Some call the newspaper industry "Sunset industry " which means it is nearing the end of its life. This creates big impact to not only newspaper industry but also others such as advertising.

New form of media creates new type of advertising. In traditional media,we always talk about attention capturing. Since most of the media do not require interaction and feedback form audience, their mission is to capture the eyes or ears of audience and draw their attention. We talk about colour, front size, short but meaningful sentence, visual impact. These are all required to raise the interest of audience. On the other hand,   in new media writing, people focus on discussion and interaction. We are more likely to look forward for  feedback and response. It is common to see that most printed advertisements contain a QR code , or you can see many pop-out ads while you are browsing the net. Even on TV, you can see that they will invite you to join their lucky draw and activities by using your phone. You can observe the changes bring from new media writing.

By the way, do you know what QR stand for?

  1. Very interesting observations - traditional media and new media interact as the 'virtual world' is becoming more a part of the 'real world'. How much do you use traditional (eg print) media, and how much do you use digital media in your life?

  2. I've become used to reading the news through digital media, it's more convenient. But when it comes to reading a book, I do prefer the actual physical book.

  3. I also prefer reading news through digital media because I can also watch some videos on my phone and larger the words. For reading the readings, I also prefer digital one, because I can use the search engine to help me find the key words in my notes.
